Indian Mango

There are many varieties of mangoes but this one is also my favorite. We commonly called this as “Indian Mango” in the Philippines. It is kind of strange name, though all mangoes are eventually believed to have originated in or around India. It is smaller than regular mango and mostly eaten raw with salted fish or bagoong, and you can feel its crunchiness and the unique taste. It’s really mouth watering. I took this photo in our backyard sometime in summer and this bunch of fresh Indian Mangoes are almost 3 feet above the ground.

I really like these photos. I live in the United States and have often bought and eaten mangoes but I’ve never seen them growing and certainly didn’t know about the differences between types of mangoes.

Are the mangoes in the picture growing naturally, or are they on some sort of orchard, grove or farm and grown for market, either within the Philippines or meant to be shipped over seas?

I’m fascinated by green fruit; I’m used to them being unfinished, but evidently those are ripe.

Another set of great photos! Wow, I love these green Indian mangoes. I can even eat this without bagoong!

Interesting. So are these pinkish-orange on the inside like the ones we buy in the stores in the US? The shape seems a little different somehow. The ones we buy don’t usually have such a pointed end.

these are fantastic shots! i’m not a big fan of green mangoes but i’m pretty sure they make the mouths of connoisseurs water =] i remember seeing huge unripe mangoes in the US while visiting my parents. they were being sold at i think 2 pieces for a dollar! they were so expensive! while here in the Philippines, the fruits often just fall off trees and go bad because they’re too common in many places =] talk about counting our blessings =]
